19th Century Australian Women's Crime Fiction

Lucy has written extensively on 19th Century Australian Crime Fiction, especially the work of Mary Fortune.  On this page you will find articles, links and information on Lucy's work and the work of other writers in the field of 19th Century Australian Crime Fiction.

Lucy authored an article called "A Woman of Mystery: Mary Fortune" which in its original form was on the Crime Factory website (which no longer exists).  Lucy has compiled a list of Australian Women Crime Fiction Authors which is hosted on the Sisters in Crime web site.

Freddie Baer created an artist's impression of Mary Fortune.

Sisters in Crime is a literary society with a shared interest in women's crime and mystery fiction.  They also sponsor the Davitt Awards, an annual award for the best crime novel by an Australian woman. Sisters in Crime named the award The Davitt in honour of Ellen Davitt (1812-1879) who wrote Australia’s first mystery novel, Force and Fraud in 1865. (Courtesy of Sisters in Crime Website)
